Public health professionals are essential in promoting healthy populations, preventing diseases and addressing health inequities in the communities they serve.

Through core coursework related to health promotion and disease prevention, our students will gain foundational knowledge in public health and factors related to human health as they work to understand and apply research methods, biostatistics and epidemiology. They will also explore health behavior theories, determinants of health in relation to various populations and environmental impacts on health. The coursework will culminate with integrative and engaging capstone courses and a hand-on practicum course, focused on the student’s area of interest within public health.

Our graduates will be prepared to successfully grow their careers in a variety of public health settings, including roles as public health educators, health promotion specialists, health policy analysts, healthcare coordinators and epidemiologists.

Focused Online Learning with Practical Applications

This program offers an online program of study designed to prepare students with essential foundational knowledge, culminating with integrative capstone and practicum courses designed for students to collaborate with community organizations, gain hands-on experience and create comprehensive plans and assessments depending on their unique area of interest.

The capstone courses align with each student’s individual aspirations and challenge students to apply their knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention by creating a high-quality written end product. Students will collaborate with faculty advisors, identify an area of interest and will choose their capstone from one of the following interest areas:

  • Community Assessment
  • Program Planning
  • Program Evaluation
  • Secondary Data Analysis
  • Advocacy Program Development

The practicum course will provide students with the opportunity to apply the foundational knowledge gained through their academic coursework directly in the public health field. For their practicums, students will be placed with organizations based on their identified areas of interest and goals within the program to actively apply their knowledge, collaborate on site with public health professionals and apply critical thinking skills.
