Principal as Agent of School Reform

This unique Principal Certification PK-12 is designed to prepare principals as instructional leaders who can effectively and ethically bring about continuous school improvements that result in increased student achievement. The principal preparation program is designed to meet the Pennsylvania Leadership Standards. All courses in the certification program are approved to meet Act 45/48 professional development requirements.

The online 成人禁区 University Principal Certification program prepares educational leaders for certification in grades PreK-12.  This portion of the Pennsylvania Department of Education's (PDE) certification process includes 18 credits of coursework that can be completed in one academic year.  Candidates are also required to complete three years of classroom teaching and successfully pass the School Leaders Licensure Assessment Praxis before applying to PDE for principal certification.

Program Distinctions

Cohort

The design of 成人禁区’s program is based on effective models of adult learning. The program provides candidates with an online community and the opportunity to cooperate and collaborate throughout the sequence of four connected online core courses all of which have job concurrent internships. Once the online learning community is formed, it becomes the basis of a strong professional network that continues to provide support and professional development for the candidates as they move through their leadership careers.

Program Delivery Model for Working Professionals

The 12-month online program allows the complete flexibility that busy educators need to accommodate work and family. Travel to 成人禁区 University is not required during the program. Your 成人禁区 University internship supervisor will meet with you several times throughout your internship.

Program Advisor

Every candidate is assigned a Program Advisor who serves as the point of contact and mentor throughout the candidate’s preparation program.

Highly Qualified Faculty

Courses are taught by highly qualified content experts who are successful practitioners in their respective fields. These faculty members are either current principals, superintendents, or individuals who have administrative experience.

Differentiated Internships

The internships begin during the first course at the introductory level, continue through key skills areas at the developmental level, and culminate during the last course in a mastery level capstone internship. This differentiated model allows candidates to have guided practice and formative feedback from university faculty mentors and experienced practitioners throughout the program.

Length of Internships

Internship experiences take place throughout the program so that candidates are involved in critical leadership responsibilities involving students, faculty and staff, strategic planning, curriculum development, budgeting, and other key areas of district culture related to a principal’s position. Candidates are required by PDE to complete 360-hours of internship as part of the Principal Certification program. Candidates complete 35-hour internships as 1-credit developmental internships in three of the classes and a 20-hour internship in one of the classes in the program.  This equals 125 hours.  The remaining 235 hours are taken in the GEDU 728 Principal Mastery Internship class. The Program Director will contact you to begin the process of thinking about this internship, developing, and completing the internship Action Plan, and beginning to log hours in advance of the class start date. You will work with a district-level Site Supervisor, who must have their Principal Certification to complete these 235-hours.

Professional Portfolio

Principal candidates schedule GEDU 732 Principal Professional Portfolio as the final course in the program. The Professional Portfolio covers all courses completed in the program. The portfolio is a very effective tool in career advancement.

School District Reimbursement

  • If your employer offers a 100% tuition reimbursement program, you may defer the balance of your semester bill until 45 days after the end of the semester. A signed reimbursement form and $100 down payment is required by the semester bill due date. No interest will be charged.
  • If your employer offers a partial reimbursement program, you may defer your employer's portion of the tuition until 45 days after the end of the semester. A signed reimbursement form and payment for the amount not covered by your employer is required by the semester bill due date. No interest will be charged.

To utilize this deferment option, please submit a signed School District Reimbursement Form and your applicable down payment by the semester bill due date. Payment can be made on your student account in 成人禁区 Self-Service and school district reimbursement forms may be submitted to cashier001@gannon.edu.
