COL David R. Fabian, USA (Ret.) was honored as one of the 2023 Distinguished Alumni honorees during Homecoming & Family Weekend. Dave retired as the Chief of Staff and Director of Communications for The Army Historical Foundation. He previously served as the Director of Communication for and Special Assistant to the President for 成人禁区 University.

Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. McSweeney was honored with the Service to Journalism Award at the Golden Quills in Pittsburgh on May 30. This is the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the National Press Club, and McSweeney will be the first person outside of Pittsburgh to win the award. After several years as leader of The Christophers in New York City, McSweeney, who built 成人禁区’s theater and communications program, was summoned back to Erie by then-Bishop Donald Trautman. Aided by Anne-Marie Welsh, he greatly improved communications in the Erie Catholic Diocese.

Rev. Msgr. Henry R. Kriegel retired on Nov. 1, 2022, after serving the Diocese of Erie for 52 years. Kriegel served as the pastor of St. Patrick Parish since 2009, prior to that he served several parishes in the 13-county diocese. He spent 12 years at St. Jude the Apostle in Millcreek Township. He then spent less than a year at McKean’s St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church before moving to California where he served in parishes attended by movie stars. Kriegel also took part in a 2016 public memorial service for Muhammad Ali.

Rev. Msgr. Henry A. Kriegel was honored as the 2023 Monsignor Wilfred J. Nash Award honoree for the 成人禁区 University Distinguished Alumni awards. This award recognizes alumni and friends of the University who uphold the ideals of faith and service in their life and work. Monsignor Kriegel retired as Pastor of St. Patrick Church for the Diocese of Erie after 52 years of service.

William J. Steger and his wife, Ruthanne Beighley, celebrated their one-year anniversary on Feb. 12, 2023. They found love while serving on the board of directors of the Catholic Foundation of Northwest PA.

Diane M. Dudzinski, Ph.D. ’68VMC was selected for a cover feature in the Ninth Edition of Marquis Millennium Magazine, which features the narrative biographies of the world’s most esteemed and accomplished professionals. Dudzinski is a retired professor of biology from Washington State Community College.

Robert A. Pacsi ’77M is an assistant coach at Nordonia High School in Northfield, Ohio, where he led the boys' basketball team to a winning season.

Fetzner retired from the Knox Law firm, practicing law for over 44 years in a variety of specialties, including real estate, estate planning and administration, and workers’ compensation.

Mr. Kevin K. O'Connell is seeking a seat on the Town Board of Hanover, NY. O’Connell, a former small business owner with a degree in Political Science from 成人禁区 University, spent 30-plus years as a public school teacher working in both general and special education.

Dr. Suzanne (Rohaly) Richard, Ph.D. helped organize an event at the Madaba Regional Archaeological Museum (MRAM) in Madaba, Jordan. This workshop offers schoolchildren and the local community an opportunity to engage in their heritage preservation.

Joan T. (Tedesco) Salchli and her husband, Stuart, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 28, 2023, at Walt Disney World, where they had their honeymoon.

David R. Jakubaszek and his wife, Jean, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 28, 2022.

Robert Mazza and his late brother, Frank Mazza ’72, opened a winery in 1972 while they attended 成人禁区. Today, Robert Mazza Inc. is a wine, spirits, and craft beer producer with operations in northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York. Mazza was recently lauded as one of Wine Industry Network’s most inspiring people for 2023.

Judith M. Lynch, Ph.D. ’73M has been a board member of the Jefferson Educational Society since its inception and served as its first chairwoman.

Deacon Dennis M. Kudlak celebrated his 20th anniversary to the permanent diaconate for the Diocese of Erie. He has served as a chaplain at Elmwood Gardens for 18 years.

David P. Marino received the Outstanding Adjunct Award for CHESS in the Computer and Information Science Department from the College of Business and Engineering at 成人禁区 University.

Josephine “Josie” K. (Subotnik) Lubiejewski ’97M retired on Jan. 31, 2023, as the vice president of Division Title Operations at First American Title Guaranty Company, where she achieved 41 years of service.

Miguel A. Sague, Jr. finds value in reenactments involving Native Americans. "I think reenacting these battles is a good thing. It's something that allows for history to come alive in front of people who haven't researched it themselves," said Sague, a board officer and speaker with the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center in Pittsburgh.

Mark W. Deitrick, Ph.D., NCC, LPC was promoted to Professor Emeritus at the Community College of Beaver County in recognition of his distinguished service to students and colleagues along with his significant contributions in program development and research.

Donna R. (Morgan) Jansen, Ph.D. has been appointed to the Board of Directors of EMulate Therapeutics, Inc. in Bellevue, Washington.

William “Ed” Seeley has been promoted to President of Polymer Valley Chemicals, where he will oversee the company’s operations, corporate headquarters, and Macon, GA-based production facilities.

Michele B. (Cunningham) Campbell Ed.D. ’79M has been appointed to the New Castle Library Board to fill a term to expire on December 31, 2025. Michele holds a doctorate in psychology and currently serves as an adjunct lecturer for 成人禁区 University in Graduate Outreach Education, Administrative Certificate, and Education Program.

Sonya (Gillespie) Harris ’80VMC is this year’s recipient of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Spirit Award in Atlantic County, NJ. Harris also got engaged in December 2022 to Leon Baptist after he proposed in front of more than 160 people at her retirement party at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point. Harris also retired from the Atlantic County Board of Commissioners as a longtime clerk.

Valerie A. Kokor, MBA recently traveled to Antarctica for a trip of a lifetime, bringing along Victor E. Knight. They began their trip in Ushuaia, Argentina. Kokor is a 2008 Distinguished Alumnus.

John C. Stehr announced his plans to run for mayor of Zionsville, Ind. on the Republican ticket in October 2022. He retired from WTHR Channel 13 in 2019.

Mary Anne Albaugh, MD, DLFAPA presented at the Orlando Biomedical Ethics and Catholic Social Teaching Lecture Series on September 13, 2023. Dr, Albaugh presented “Caring for our children, families and community – Challenges, disparities and opportunities for making a difference.”

Mary Anne Albaugh, MD, DLFAPA was a guest speaker at the 2022 Community Health Net Annual Meeting in October at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel. Health care and business professionals gathered to discuss the impact of mental health on the community under the theme of “Healthy Minds, Healthy Communities.” Albaugh is a psychiatrist with Deerfield Behavioral Health in Warren, an affiliate of Journey Health System. 

Professor Michael J. Stafford provided a lecture in October at the Martz-Kohl Observatory explaining the various motions the earth undergoes as it travels through space, including its interactions with the sun, moon and other planets. He also explained the principals of physics needed to understand the motion of the solar system through the galaxy in a non-mathematical way. Stafford is an adjunct physics professor at 成人禁区 and has taught physics for 37 years.

James F. Heagy, Ph.D. has been included in the Marquis Who's Who.  He is celebrated for his dedication to the defense industry. Dr. Heagy channels years of experience into his work with the Institute for Defense Analyses.

Dr. Leslie E. Edinboro, Eric S. Lavins, Douglas E. Rohde ‘86, Dr. Carl E. Wolf II ’86 were all Chemistry majors at 成人禁区 University and all became Forensic Toxicologists. They recently met up at the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT) that was held in Cleveland, OH.  Les currently serves as the Executive Director, Toxicology and PDM for Quest Diagnostics, Inc. and owns Edinboro Consulting LLC in Glen Allen, VA; Eric is the Forensic Toxicology Supervisor for Cuyahoga County (OH); Douglas is the Senior Forensic Chemist/Toxicologist for Lake County Crime Laboratory in Painesville, OH; and, Carl is the Supervisor, Forensic Sciences for Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.

Rev. Thomas J. Whitman is the new pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Corry, PA and St. Teresa of Avila parish in Union City, PA.

David A. Dore, Ph.D. was hired as the new Chancellor for Northern Virginia Community College, beginning his tenure on April 1, 2023. His goal is to visit all 23 of the state’s community colleges.

Charles H. Dougherty, Jr. is the Director of Intellectual Property and Operations at Carnegie Mellon University's Center for Technology Transfer Creation and Enterprise Creation. When Carnegie Mellon University’s students and staff want to turn their new tech ideas into startups, he is there to help them obtain patents and protect their ideas.

David A. Muha and his classmates from the Class of 1983 celebrated their 40th reunion by returning to the 成人禁区 campus in early September. They received a campus tour and said they had a great time!

Charles “Chuck” P. Stefanosky is the Supplier Diversity Director at Independence Blue Cross. In this role, he develops and executes strategies to enrich Independence’s 30+ year commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. His work helps to create opportunities for growth among businesses that are owned and controlled by women, veterans, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Mr. Stefanosky is a sought-after advisor and speaker on best-in-class supplier diversity programs.

Rev. Msgr. Edward M. Lohse has been appointed as the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo, Michigan starting on July 25, 2023. He previously served as the vicar general of the Erie Diocese and pastor of St. Julia Church in Millcreek Township.

Diane M. (Sain) Marzula has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Manager for Global Accounts by Federated Hermes, Inc.  Federated Hermes, Inc. is a global leader in active, responsible investment management, with $701 billion in assets under management, as of March 31, 2023.

Carl R. Nicolia presented at the 成人禁区 University's Dahlkemper School of Business Speaker Session on "Entrepreneurism: An Intellectual Journey with PSNergy" on April 18, 2023 on 成人禁区’s Erie campus. Carl Nicolia is the CEO and President at PSNergy.

Almitra M. (Clemente) Clerkin ’17M accepted the role of executive director of the Sisters of St. Joseph Foundation, following several years of service as director of stewardship at 成人禁区.

Arnaldo A. D’Ambrosio is the new Chief Development Officer at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan. Karmanos Cancer Institute is a leader in transformative cancer care, research and education through courage, commitment and compassion.

Honorable Joseph E. Sinnott has been hired as the new director of the Erie County Economic Development Department. The Economic Development Department seeks to invest, leverage and maximize returns on American Rescue Plan funds. It works toward high impact regional projects, business attraction and small business development and municipal engagement through its fusion cell.  Joe previously served as the Mayor of Erie.

Gerald “Gerry” M. Van de Merwe ’01M retired from the position of CEO at the YMCA Greater Erie after 35 years of service.

Carlo J. Pelino, OD was named to Newsweek's list of America's Best Eye Doctors for 2023. Dr. Pelino currently serves as Chief of The Eye Institute of Salus University in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Diane (Rao) Harman is a playwright, director and professor of the theatre at Muskingum University in New Concord, OH.  Diane grew up mostly in Erie, Pennsylvania, graduated from high school and 成人禁区 University in Erie, then did her graduate work in theatre at Bowling Green State University.

Lori A. (Rape) Joint is one of the women who make it their business to help Erie area thrive. She is the CEO of the Manufacturer & Business Association in Erie, PA, which is helping businesses look at new ways to attract and retain employees and evaluate processes, services and technology to not only survive but also grow.

Kelly M. (Malloy) Lazzara is the new president for the all-girls Oakland Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA. Ms. Lazzara will be responsible for the development, fundraising and overall financial management of the school.

Mark E. Muenzer is the new Planning and Development Director of Culver City. He started this position on January 30, 2023. He will lead the restructuring efforts of the Planning and Development Department.

Peter J. Sala, Esq. is running for Erie County Judge. Peter is a self-employed Attorney in Erie who has practiced for over 28 years, and is entering his 26th year as the Erie County Sheriff’s Solicitor.

Parris J. Baker, Ph.D. spoke about Dr. Martin Luther King and America’s Self-Evident Truth at the Jefferson Education Society in Erie on Feb. 20.

Troy E. Bingham MBA announced the Erie Sports Center will partner with Special Olympics Pennsylvania to establish its regional headquarters there. They will also partner with the Cleveland Cavaliers to create a community-wide Junior Cavs program to engage kids in basketball and educate coaches and parents. They are joining forces with Bookwell Travel, an online travel agency committed to ending veteran homelessness, and Veterans Miracle Center to build a residential home community for area veterans. The Center will be the site of residential units with greenhouses and solar fields for veterans. The on-site greenhouses will span two acres and provide jobs growing produce for local grocery stores. 

Troy E. Bingham MBA is hosting the development of the veteran's village project in which duplexes or townhomes would be built for veterans. Organizers expect to submit a formal development plan for the veterans' village project to the township this spring. Troy is the owner of the Erie Sports Center, where he will be opening Erie Preparatory Academy to students in grades 9-12 this fall.  The Academy will be located on the campus of Erie Sports Center and will feature five high-level developmental athletics programs that will attract students from around the globe.

Michael J. Cymbor, OD was voted best eye doctor through online surveys of Best of State College 2022. Cymbor is an optometrist with the Nittany Eye Associates in State College, Pa.

Sean D. Dugan was promoted by Erie Insurance to executive vice president of human resources and corporate services, effective in January 2023. In addition to HR leadership, Dugan’s career at ERIE spans roles in personal lines underwriting, reinsurance underwriting, technical training, development and instructional design. Dugan was named vice president of corporate training and development,in 2010; vice president of recruiting in 2012; and vice president of talent acquisition and community outreach in 2014. In 2018, Dugan was named ERIE’s corporate HR officer.

Laura A. (Strozewski) Gloss was named assistant vice president of procurement at SRC, effective in January. The organization is a not-for-profit research and development company which combines information, science, technology and ingenuity to solve “impossible” problems in the areas of defense, environment and intelligence.

Jomo W. Mutegi, Ph.D. (Bradford F. Lewis) was recently elected president of the National Association of Research in Science Teaching. NARST is a worldwide organization for improving science teaching and learning through research. It was founded in 1928 and is the world’s most prominent international association of science education researchers.

Gregory A. Caldwell, OD was name to Newsweek's list of America's Best Eye Doctors for 2023.  Dr. Caldwell is an ocular disease consultant with Enhanced Eye Care in Duncansville, PA, and is he is a well-respected lecturer. He lectures several times throughout the year to his colleagues. He has given over 300 lectures in numerous U.S. cities and in over 12 countries. Dr. Caldwell has been a participant in multiple FDA investigations.

Denise L. (Lombardo) Sommers R.N., John R. Sommers CPA, would like to congratulate their daughter, Nichole Sommers. Nichole received her masters degree in the Physician Assistant program from 成人禁区 in 2023.

Staci L. (Cuddeback) Thompson is serving as the executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Bassett Healthcare Network in Cooperstown, New York effective May 22, 2023.

Gary N. Lee ’93M was formally named chief administrative officer of the newly-formed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission in Erie County by a unanimous vote of the commission in December 2022. He will be responsible for the everyday operations of the body as well as oversight of all grants and contracts. The commission, which was established under the Dahlkemper administration via American Rescue Plan Act funding, aims to invest and lobby for underserved minority populations. Composed of a nine-member board of commissioners, the group identifies viable programs for grant funding, particularly in areas like housing, education, entrepreneurship and workforce development.

Eric D. Coston has announced his candidacy for the Republican Party's nomination for Crawford County coroner in the May primary. Eric currently serves as deputy coroner of Crawford County under Coroner Scott Schell.

Eric G. LaPrice, MS ’97C, ’99M received a temporary promotion and will do a 120-day assignment as the Acting Superintendent of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River. He's been the Deputy Superintendent here for about 1.5 years.

He also passed two juried session and has been accepted as a new artist at Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley, WV.

He submitted 10 images electronically for an online jury session. He then was notified that he had passed that and was invited to present 6 gallery-ready pieces for an in-person juried session.

Karen R. Rzepecki ’92 won a contract this year to sell her products in Walmart stores. She is the founder of Erie-based ReCap Mason Jars.

Paul A. Lukach, MSW, LSW, TF-CBT was appointed by Governor Tom Wolfe to serve on Pennsylvania’s Victim Services Advisory Committee. Lukach was sworn into office on Nov. 30, 2022. The VSAC advises the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) regarding policies, priorities and performance standards for victims’ services and compensation. The VSAC’s mission and vision are to promote a standard of excellence in crime victim services that ensures survivor-focused services are available and accessible for all crime victims and communities.

Karen A. (Fails) Surkala was named chief operating officer of Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie. Surkala is president of Westfield Memorial Hospital and will jointly lead Westfield with Chris Clark, D.O., president of Saint Vincent Hospital. In her new position, Surkala will oversee day-to-day operations at the hospital and its affiliated facilities and programs in the community.

Annette Franklin, PhD ’03C spoke about "That's Personal..." : An Invisible Topic - The Stigma of Mental Health Today at the Jefferson Education Society on March 13, 2023.  Annette is a retired Social Worker and serves as Lecturer, Social Work Field Coordinator at SUNY Fredonia.

John C. Melaragno has been named the new judge for the Erie Division of U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Karen A. Surkala is one of the new members of the United Way of Erie County's Board of Directors.  Karen is the Chief Operating Officer for Saint Vincent Hospital.

John C. White graduated from Duke University with a Master of Divinity degree after returning from serving the church in South Africa over the summer. He is currently serving in ministry under a United Methodist Church.

Christine R. (Giangiuli) Eddy has been hired by the Erie Downtown Partnership as the new Development Director.

Melanie L. (Smith) Hake is the new Executive Director for Stairways Behavioral Health. Stairways focuses on mental health and substance use/misuse, two significant health needs in the Erie region.

Bernice “Bee” D. (Miles) Martin Lee has been appointed the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Epilepsy Foundation, effective July 17, 2023.  She brings more than 25 years of diverse experience in the nonprofit and healthcare sectors, including OhioHealth, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, American Red Cross, Hands on Network, and the Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities.

Chester “Chad” M. Spohn III challenged the incumbent Summit Township board of supervisors chariman in the April primary.  Spohn, an oil and gas worker who attended 成人禁区 University, said this is his first run for public office, and he was inspired to run because of the growth he has seen in the community.

Brandy Cortes-Armstrong ’98M was appointed to the newly formed Latino-Hispanic-American Advisory Council by Mayor Joe Schember. Cortes-Armstrong is a counselor with New Directions Healthcare and is a member of the Erie Latino Leadership Association. 

John M. Styborski ’98M and his wife, Tracy (Nale) StyborskI ’96, ’98M have been mastering physical therapy for twenty years. Owners of Masters of Physical Therapy in Corry, Pa. They significantly grew their customer base within its first few years that they both became full-time owners. They agreed that it was the overwhelming support from the community that allowed them to continue doing what they loved.

Brian R. Kightlinger received two first place and one runner-up awards from the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association. He received these awards for his  articles,  "Scoring Big Bucks: Pirate" and "Kids, Sports, Hunting and a Proud Father" that were published in the Crossbow Magazine and Global Outdoors publication.

Shelley Bortz was a guest speaker for the Uniontown College Club meeting in October 2022. She was a fixture on television newscasts in several states before returning to Pittsburgh, joining KDKA in 2021. She previously worked as a reporter for WPXI.
Mohammad Saud Al-Osaimi was named a top CEO of the Middle East by Forbes. He became CEO of Boursa Kuwait in 2019. The company reported revenues of $101 million, assets worth $360 million and net profits of $65 million in 2021. They had 167 listed companies and a market cap of $135.2 billion in 2021.

Stacy M. Juchno is the new board vice chair of the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. She serves as executive vice president and general auditor for the PNC Financial Services Group. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees for 成人禁区 University.

Kevin T. Johnson ’98M applied for a historical marker for Ford Station, which was the first Underground Railroad station in Erie. The historical marker was approved by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission.

Lt. Thomas L. Lenox continues to make a big impact on the lives of hundreds of local children through the Erie Police Athletic League, an organization he revived in 2016. Starting with just a handful of kids, the program now serves more than 800 children.

Joseph B. Steeves was elected to the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) Board of Directors as the southwest region vice president.

Bradley J. Collins, MD, SFHM, FACP presented the most recent Orlando Lecture on “Medical Ethics: A Brief History and Practical Applications for The Real World” on Feb.15 in Ruskin, Fla.

Patrick J. Fabian announced he will seek re-election for Armstrong County commissioner. He has served as commissioner since 2016, serving four of those years as chairman of the Armstrong County Board of Commissioners.

COL Stacey E. Harring was promoted to Colonel, US Army in a ceremony on July 6th at Army Materiel Command, Redstone Arsenal, AL.  She is a graduate of Oil City High School and 1999 graduate of 成人禁区 University where she commissioned from Army ROTC as a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.  During her 23 years of service, COL Harring has served in a variety of assignments in the active and reserve components Currently she is mobilized as the Executive Officer for the Chief of Staff G3, Army Materiel Command.  COL Harring earned a BS in General Science and Biology, and MA in Procurement and Acquisition Management.  In her civilian career she is a Supply Chain Program Manager for the Sentinel Program at Northrup Grumman.  COL Harring is a very active volunteer in the community, holding leadership positions at American Legion Post 229, Girl Scout Troop 10329 and Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.  She is married to Colonel (Retired) Marcus Harring and they have four children Vince (25), Kelsey (23), Kevin (15), and Hadley (9) and reside in Madison Alabama. 

Christina M. (Zook) Lukasiak was the keynote speaker at the All For Her event this year located in Washington, PA. Christi hopes to inspire other women to be their most authentic selves by sharing her personal experiences and focusing on three pillars – practicing self-love, practicing self-care, and having a passion project. The reality television alum turned motivational speaker, social media influencer and podcaster now travels across the country to share her message with young women.

Sarah L. Andrews was named the director of knowledge management at the law firm Stradley Ronon Stevens and Young. Andrews is responsible for creating and evangelizing the firm’s knowledge management program. She will support and help innovate the performance of legal teams by transforming how they capture, curate and share collective knowledge. She has spent more than 15 years in Big Law, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy with which teams tackle legal and operational projects.

Jeffrey D. Kiddie is the recipient of the 2023 PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award. This is the highest annual honor given to a PGA of America Professional, awarded for leadership, strong moral character and a substantial record of service to the Association and the game of golf. Kiddie is the Head Golf Professional at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa.

Chanel M. Cook was honored as one of the 2023 Distinguished Alumni honorees during Homecoming & Family Weekend. Chanel is the Chief of Communications with the Atlanta VA Health Care System for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Heather L. (Greer) Evans ’00M has been appointed to the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College's Board of Trustees.  Heather currently serves as the Human Resource Manager at Port Erie Plastics in Erie.

John M. Leighann S. Forbes Ed.D. ’02C ’13C is helping 成人禁区 University stay on the forefront of education through her work with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). In 2022, the PDE formally adopted three new sets of program framework guidelines, including Culturally-Relevant and Sustaining Education (CR-SE) guidelines. This set of guidelines is made up of nine competencies that are intended to help education stakeholders create student-centered learning environments that affirm cultural identities; foster positive academic outcomes; develop students’ abilities to connect across lines of difference; elevate historically marginalized voices; empower students as agents of social change; and contribute to individual student engagement, learning, growth, and achievement through the cultivation of critical thinking. Dr. Forbes was asked to represent the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators and became one of three contributing writers to these competencies. Nicole M. (Samone) Dull ’04M, ’07C, ’20C was appointed as superintendent-elect in July 2021 for the Conemaugh Township Area School District, with her four-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2023. Dull served as the district’s elementary school principal for the last 15 years. She is the first female superintendent of the District.

Kevin M. Ola shared stories of his military experience with Washington Junior/Senior High School students in Washington, Pa. on Nov. 11, 2022, Veterans Day. Ola is a U.S. Army veteran and inspector for the Transportation Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.

Jason A. Turka ’04M is one of 12 finalists for the 2023 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year award. Turka represented the Bethel Park School District. He has been a math instructor at Independence Middle School since 2000.

Alicia N. DePasquale Harrison is one of the winners of the 2023 SIA Women in Biometrics Awards. She is the Chief of Stakeholder Engagement, Office of Biometric Identity Management at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Albert G. Donadi, Jr. was inducted into the Marian Catholic High School Hall of Fame. Donadi was a star athlete in three sports – football, baseball and track – gaining eight letters as a varsity starter in which he won individual championships and played important roles in several Colt team championships. Donadi helped the Colts baseball team win the 1999 Schuylkill League Division championship and the 2001 Schuylkill League Division and District 11 championships, won the 2001 District 11 gold medal in the 100-meter dash, and currently ranks eighth on Marian’s all-time leading rushers with 2,252 yards.

Zachary M. Flock ’19M has been named the new executive director of the Erie Playhouse. He studied at 成人禁区 University and spent more than two decades as part of Erie's theater community.

Douglas R. Kramer was promoted by the Pennsylvania State Police to Lieutenant and assigned the Commander of the Western Pennsylvania All Hazards Fusion Center within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

James M. Timm is participating in a contest through Mr. Health & Fitness magazine and is currently in the quarter finals. He is hoping to win so he can give  back to the Homes For Wounded Warriors program and raise awareness for this cause.

Joseph D. Cavalier spoke to students at 成人禁区 in February. He discussed climbing the ladder at Wabtec to become a major leader within the corporation. Cavalier is the the Executive Plant Manager at Wabtec in Erie. 

Mary Theresa (Horvat) Vermillion was inducted to the Marian Catholic High School Hall of Fame on Oct. 23, 2022. She was a four-year starter for the Fillies volleyball team, helping them to win championships in both the Schuylkill League and District 11. She was also a four-time District 11 champion in track and field. As a junior, she won the district gold medal in the shot put, discus and javelin, and was named a first-team selection in the shot put and discus by the Pottsville Republican. In her senior year, she won the district shot put gold medal, set the school record in javelin and has a season’s best discus toss. She extended her volleyball expertise as an assistant coach at Eastern High School in Voorhees, NJ in 2006, became head coach at Jim Thorpe in 2008, and then led the Our Lady of the Angels Academy program in 2011.

Gregory S. Coleman ’09M was named the 2022 Erie Times-News Sportsman of the Year. He is the President of the Erie Seawolves, and his recognition as Sportsman of the Year follows a tremendous baseball season leading to the league championship game in 2022. Coleman was also named Minor League Executive of the Year as the Erie SeaWolves won three MiLB awards.

Maurice Clarke ‘09, ‘13, ‘20M works as a licensed professional counselor and as the minority veterans program coordinator at the Erie VA Medical Center. He also works as a child and adolescent therapist at LECOM Health’s Achievement Center. Emily L. (Scheinberg-Powell) Levine, Ed.D. ’09M, ’10C received the Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year Award on Dec. 8, 2022. A third-grade teacher at Gateway’s Dr. Cleveland Steward Jr. Elementary School, Levine was selected from more than 400 nominations throughout western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia in Junior Achievement’s first contest for the area’s top teacher.

Edisa Berberkic ’12M was promoted to associate director of development and contracts for a national nonprofit advocacy organization in Washington, D.C. She assists in the management of all revenue received by the organization including gifts, sponsorships and grants. She also oversees the contract process, making sure agreements are executed accurately, and aids in administering all public and private grant awards. Previously, she worked primarily in the government sector for more than 10 years both at the county level and as a federal contractor, managing public and private grants. She has future plans to further her education by earning her doctorate degree. 

Attorney Brandi A. (KELLY) Suter is the founder of Extraordinary Law, LLC, her own practice she established after earning her 成人禁区 degree, pursued her master’s from the University of Pittsburgh, and earned her law degree from Duquesne University.

Rev. Tyler J. Bandura celebrated his tenth year ordination anniversary. He was ordained to the priesthood June 1, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Father Bandura served as parochial vicar at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg (2013-2016), Episcopal Master of Ceremonies and Associate Director of the Office for Clergy Vocations and Religion instructor at Greensburg Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School. In 2016, he was named pastor of St. James Parish, New Alexandria. In 2022, he was named administrator pro-tem of St. Rose Parish and St. John the Evangelist parish, while remaining pastor of St. James Parish. He also serves as the Diocese as Director of Priestly Vocations.

Jessica A. Coleman ’09M ’06C has joined Agresti Real Estate as a real estate agent. She studied elementary education at Edinboro University and received her Masters in Education from 成人禁区 University. Jessica knows that buying or selling a home can be a complicated and emotional time so she relies on her teaching experience to help with the process.

Brian P. Hahn has been appointed as principal of Goochland High School (GHS), effective July 1, 2023. Hahn has served as the assistant principal at GHS since 2019.

Brandon K. Wiley ’13M received the Community Spirit Award from the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership, which was given for his involvement and efforts in the community. He is the founder of OpenedEyes, a nonprofit dedicated to education in the areas of self-development, diversity and inclusion.

Kyle A. Churman was named as one of Erie's 40 Under 40: Class of 2023. He is the co-owner of Werner Books. In taking a stand for local literacy, Kyle Churman has shown a lot of spine. "The signs of a thriving community are libraries, bookstores, and access to information."  Kyle also helped establish nearby Grover Cleveland Elementary School's Little Free Library, hosts several local book clubs (the Hagen History Center's Canalside Readers, Books + Beers in collaboration with Erie Ale Works) and school book fairs, and surfaces regularly at pop-up bookstores around the community.

Emily P. Cummings just had her debut novel published! The Senator's Daughter is a work of historical fiction and follows Julia Webster, the daughter of renowned senator Daniel Webster, in 1830's America. Emily currently serves as the Student Services & Communications Specialist in the Dean's Office.

Anthony B. DiPasqua and a silent partner are the new owners of The Lavender Rabbit, which is now called La Bella Vita. The foodie haven stocks more than 50 kinds of infused olive oil as well as kitchen-related gifts. They also own a high-end Erie-centric gift shop called Lake Erie Variety. Both shops are located in Village West.

Anjali Sahay, Ph.D. ’11M spoke about “Brain Drain in the 21st Century: Current Trends in Developing and Developed Countries” on Feb. 13, 2023 at the Jefferson Educational Society in Erie. Sahay is an educator, leader, author, researcher and a performing artist working as associate professor and program director of political science in 成人禁区’s School of Public Service and Global Affairs. She has successfully run Model UN Programs at various universities for more than two decades.

Anjali Sahay, PhD  ’11M wrote an article, a book review of Here to Stay: Uncovering South Asian American History, which was recently published in the journal, South Asian Diaspora.  Anjali is an assoc professor of Political Science & Int'l Relations at 成人禁区 University.

Colleen M. Harriger, MD joined the Washington Health System Orthopedics and Sports Medicine group. Harriger completed her fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital and her residency at UPMC Hamot in Erie, where she earned the American Orthopedic Association Resident Leadership Representative award.

Alicia M. Wurm ’13M joined the medical staff at Penn Highlands Healthcare in DuBois, Pa. She works with patients who have cataracts, glaucoma, eye muscle problems, blocked tear ducts, and corneal or eye injuries.

Erin Liptak ’12M is in her 14th year of teaching kindergarten at Bennetts Valley Elementary School in Weedville, PA. For the 2023-2024 school year, Erin will be teaching at Fox Township Elementary School in Kersey, PA. Erin has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Clarion University and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from 成人禁区 University.

Dr. Katie E. Ralston ’12M has been selected the 2023 New York State Middle School Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).  Katie is the lead 6-12 principal at Cuba-Rushford Central School District.  Katie was also name the new Superintendent of the SIlver Creek Central School District as of July 1, 2023.

Lauren E. Shoemaker ’12M was named as one of Erie's 40 Under 40: Class of 2023. She is a co-owner of Werner Books and an Assistant Professor of English at Slippery Rock University.  As of 2022, she is co-owner of Erie's beloved Werner Books alongside husband (and fellow 2023 40 Under 40 honoree) Kyle Churman. Together with their team, they've continued the store's legacy of fostering a welcoming space while also building new community partnerships with WQLN PBS, LEAF, and Grover Cleveland Elementary School. Shoemaker also coordinates the Book + Beers monthly book club, assists Mabel Howard in the hosting of Poetry X-Change on the second Sunday of each month, and has worked with the team on doubling the store's size and opening a coffee shop.

Ash Jones is working to bridge the gap in financial literacy by hosting workshops and programs that focus on finance, housing, grants and loans at the ERIEBANK branch on Parade Street as the community office manager. Selena N. King is one of six new members appointed to the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus Foundation’s board. Rt. Rev. Sean W. Rowe ’14M officiated Ascension Day at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church on May 18, 2023. Rowe was ordained Bishop of Northwestern Pennsylvania in 2007 and was the youngest bishop in the Episcopal church for almost twelve years. He became the provisional Bishop of Western New York in 2019.

Daniel “Danny” J. Smith ’15M was named the 2022 South Atlantic League Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year by the Professional Baseball Strength & Conditioning Coaches Society. He is the strength coach for the Hudson Valley Renegades, completing his second season in the position in 2022 and his sixth overall with the Yankees organization. He was also named the South Atlantic League Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year by the PBSCCS in 2021 with the Renegades.

Aaron J. Stearns, Ph.D. earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and a graduate minor in acoustics from Pennsylvania State University in December 2022. He will be employed by the Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Laboratory as an assistant research professor in structural acoustics.

Patrice Swick works as a Neighborhood Engagement Specialist for the Sisters of Saint Joseph Neighborhood Network. Samantha A. Brueckner ’17M was inducted into the Mars Area High School's Sports Hall of Fame on September 8, 2023. Mani, a soccer star from the class of 2012, was not able to attend the ceremony. Damali Donovan works within Erie to address limiting factors in the community. Her work has included time with United Way of Erie County and the Villa Maria Cathedral Preparatory School System, where she currently works as an admissions director. In her role as Penn State Extension’s master watershed steward coordinator, she addresses invasive species outreach, native tree plantings, water quality monitoring and coordination with local watershed associations. Kathryn L. Kapp, Ph.D. successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, "Plasma Proteomic Factors Associated with Sepsis Survival Outcomes," on Monday, August 7, 2023, and will receive her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Kathryn has been appointed as a Propel Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine beginning in September 2023.

Andrew R. Peirson is an offensive lineman with the B.C. Lions in Ontario, Canada, and recently signed a two-year contract extension. The former 成人禁区 athlete was eligible for free agency in February. He will play his fifth season with the Lions in 2023. Vancouver signed Peirson as a non-drafted free agent before training camp in 2018.

Dr. Susan D. Johnson ’18M was given the Teaching Excellence Award. The Teaching Excellence Award is given to one extraordinary faculty member who has contributed significantly to the intellectual life at Mercyhurst. Johnson has been a member of the Mercyhurst faculty for the past 13 years, currently serving as the director of Undergraduate Education and chosen to be the Chair of the Department of Education for Fall 2023, a role she previously held from 2016-2022.

Santiago Mendez was promoted to head coach for Olivet College baseball program in September 2022. Mendez served as the assistant coach for the previous three seasons, during which he worked with the pitching staff and team defense and served as the third base coach. Prior to joining the Olivet staff in January 2020, Mendez was a volunteer assistant baseball coach at 成人禁区 for two years.

Lisa Goddard McGuirk ’19M was named the 2022 Erie Times-News Sportswoman of the Year. She is the athletic director at 成人禁区. Lisa D. Goddard McGuirk ’19M was one of the speakers at a meeting at the Jefferson Education Society on April 26, 2023.  The meeting was about the importance of "Sports in Developing Business Leaders". Lisa currently serves as the Athletic Director for 成人禁区 University.

Rev. Andrew J. Hamilton earned both the Master of Divinity, summa cum laude, and the Bachelor of Sacred Theology, summa cum laude, from St. Vincent Seminary. He studied at St. Vincent College, then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from 成人禁区 University, Erie, in 2019. He was ordained into the priesthood on June 3, 2023 in the Diocese of Greensburg.

David J. Koma ’19C was named the next Superintendent by the Girard School Board. He has spent 27 years as an educator. It includes four years as a teacher at Rice Ave. Middle School. He has also served as the school's principal since 2008.

Rachel Loper works as an associate attorney at MacDonald, Illig, Jones, & Britton for their Banking, Real Estate and Business Transactions practice groups. Kate A. DuCarme, MPAS, PA-C ’21M joined the Washington Health System Family Medicine - California. She completed more than half of her clinical rotations at WHS facilities.

Kennedie J. Ebersole ’20M has accepted an internship with the Indianapolis Colts as an athletic trainer. The future Colts intern joined Presbyterian College, a Division I school in South Carolina, where she started as an assistant athletic trainer with its football program only to take on the interim head football athletic trainer position half a year later. While at Presbyterian, Ebersole began the process of reaching out to NFL teams, with the Colts calling, interviewing and giving her the opportunity to live out her dream.

Hannah Rhodes received a degree in early childhood education and special education from 成人禁区 in 2020. Today, she uses her degree to help Erie connect with nature by designing and implementing educational programs at the Lake Erie Arboretum and Frontier Park (LEAF). Hailey B. Connors has become a new Erie police officer. Hailey, 23, is a graduate of Girard High School who earned a degree in criminal justice and a minor in social work from 成人禁区 University. She previously worked for 成人禁区 University Police & Safety.

Grant Filbeck '22M currently works as the district manager of Junior Achievement of Western PA, helping to coordinate K-12 educational programs across the region. Filbeck also works with groups like Erie’s Multicultural Health Evaluation Delivery System, Young Erie Professionals and the Erie Chamber Ambassadors.
