Fraternity and sorority life, encompasses social organizations at colleges and universities that provide members with opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, community service, and lifelong friendships. Here are some frequently asked questions about fraternity and sorority life:

On the contrary, a central mission of all fraternity and sorority life organizations is academic excellence. Fraternities and sororities understand that their members are students first and foremost. All chapters have scholarship programs that include required study hours, tutoring, recognition for academic success, etc.

Hazing has no place in any organization. 成人禁区 University will not tolerate hazing in any student organization. In addition, hazing is against the law in the State of Pennsylvania. Members, students and alumni shall neither conduct nor condone any hazing activity at any fraternity/sorority event. Permission or approval by the person subjected to hazing is not a defense.

The 成人禁区 University IFC and Panhellenic Council will adhere to the definition of hazing as outlined in the 成人禁区 University student handbook as well that given by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which states that hazing is:

“Any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student or which willfully destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in, any organization operating under the sanction of or recognized as an organization by an institution of higher education. The term shall include, but not be limited to, any brutality of a physical nature, such as whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, exposure to the elements, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug or other substance, or any other forced physical activity which could adversely affect the physical health and safety of the individual, and shall include any activity which would subject the individual to extreme mental stress, such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct that could result in extreme embarrassment, or any other forced activity which could adversely affect the mental health or dignity of the individual, or any willful destruction or removal of public or private property.

For purposes of this definition, any activity as described in this definition upon which the initiation or admission into or affiliation with or continued membership in an organization is directly or indirectly conditioned shall be presumed to be "forced" activity, the willingness of an individual to participate in such activity notwithstanding.”

Joining a fraternity or sorority does carry a financial commitment similar or greater to other clubs/organizations or club sports with dues to help support the organizations operations.

Each chapter is self-supporting with revenue coming from members who pay dues. When students join a fraternity or sorority, they agree to pay dues and fees while enrolled at 成人禁区 University in order to maintain membership.

While membership is affordable, some chapters offer scholarships, or payment plans to make membership more affordable. Additionally, members often have a say in how chapter funds are allocated, providing transparency and accountability for dues. The chapters will discuss financial obligations with you before you join.

Absolutely. Fraternity and sorority membership is a lifelong commitment. Once you are an initiated member, you remain a member for life. As such, each organization has an extensive alumni network. Being a fraternity or sorority member means having an immediate connection with thousands of other members.

Membership in a fraternity or sorority provides lifelong benefits, especially through extensive alumni networks, which can be invaluable for career growth and mentorship. The leadership, project management, and teamwork skills developed in Greek life often help members professionally, while the close friendships formed create a lasting support system. Many alumni stay involved through local alumni chapters or by volunteering, allowing them to maintain a connection to the values of their organization and continue giving back. These networks, skills, and connections can positively impact members’ personal and professional lives well beyond college.
