CAPS is located in Beyer 305 and is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
CAPS clinicians adhere to the legal and ethical guidelines of their state boards. Confidentiality is strictly upheld and would only be broken if there is an imminent and clear danger to a student, another person and/or to the 成人禁区 community. In this case, only relevant and pertinent information will be released which is meant to ensure the safety of the students and the members of the 成人禁区 community. CAPS cannot share information with anyone [faculty, administration, coaches, peers, families] without written consent from the student client. Counseling records are only accessible by CAPS staff and are separate from all other university student records.
All CAPS services are free and do not require health insurance.
If you are interested in on-campus/in-person counseling, please email us at counseling@gannon.edu, and a CAPS clinician will respond to schedule a phone triage appointment with you. During the 10-15 minute phone triage appointment, we will discuss your concerns/needs as well as our services to come up with a plan for you.
If you decide to begin ongoing counseling at CAPS, you and your clinician will work together to determine the focus and goals of counseling. CAPS clinicians are licensed and trained in a variety of treatment approaches such as: EMDR, Brainspotting, EFT, Biofeedback, Grief Certification, CAMS-Trained, CBT, E&RP and more.
If you are interested in online counseling, you can access this option by creating an account with our telehealth partner, BetterMynd. You can log in to the BetterMynd website using your 成人禁区 log-in information . You will be able to choose your therapist by reading through their bios. Bios include area(s) of specialty, approach to therapy, languages spoken, availability, etc. BetterMynd therapists offer appointments evenings and weekends as well as traditional weekday hours. Therapists hold counseling sessions via Zoom on the BetterMynd website. Counseling through BetterMynd is free and confidential.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who prescribes medications for psychological symptoms. CAPS has a consulting psychiatrist a few hours per week during the academic year. In addition, CAPS also assists students with off-campus psychiatry referrals. If you are interested in psychiatry, please email counseling@gannon.edu.
Executive function coaching helps people develop skills like organization, prioritizing, planning, time management, and emotional regulation by teaching personalized strategies to manage daily tasks and achieve goals. It empowers people with and without diagnosed conditions like ADHD to overcome challenges related to self-regulation, improve academic or professional performance and enhance their overall productivity and well-being.
CAPS sponsors two Relaxation Rooms on campus. One is located in CAPS and the other one is located in the Nash Library. The rooms have heated massage chairs, guided breathing exercises, mindfulness and meditation exercises, yoga mats, meditation pillows, sand trays, coloring materials, lightboxes, teas and more.
CAPS staff enjoy providing trainings on mental health topics to student organizations, classes, departments. In particular, staff regularly offer QPR Training to members of the campus community. QPR stands for “Question, Persuade, Refer” and is a suicide prevention program designed to help people recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and respond effectively. Please email CAPS for more information.
If you (or another 成人禁区 student) are currently experiencing a mental health crisis and do not feel safe (i.e. you/they are experiencing current thoughts or behaviors related to suicide), please utilize the following resources:
