Student Teaching

Student teaching provides a hands-on experience where teacher candidates apply classroom learning in real classrooms, with guidance from cooperating teachers and university supervisors, preparing for their own teaching careers.

Requirements:

• PDE requires that at least 50% of student teaching must be in-person in a public school.
• Fifty percent of student teaching may take place in an approved online special education program.
• Candidates must complete seven weeks of student teaching in the summer, planning and delivering daily lessons in assigned special education classrooms.
• Candidates seeking initial certification are required to complete 14 weeks of student teaching.

PDE Requirements

• Candidates for teaching certification must take an English Language Learner (ELL) course if they haven’t completed an approved ELL course previously. 成人禁区 offers GEDU 520 Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL/ELLs as a three-credit, seven-week online course.
• Prior to applying for certification, candidates must pass the Praxis Special Education: Foundational Knowledge (5355).
• Individuals who are seeking initial certification must also pass the Praxis Fundamental Subjects: Content Knowledge exam (5511).

Certification

成人禁区 University recommends program completers for certification, which requires passing the licensure exam. The Pennsylvania Department of Education issues certification to candidates who have completed all coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and passed the licensure exam.
