Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

Recommended standards for high school students for consideration for acceptance to the undergraduate Applied Exercise Science program include:

  1. Overall high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Completion of biology and chemistry courses, including lab components, along with three years of mathematics.

Accelerated and Plus Programs

成人禁区 offers opportunities for students to participate in the 4+1 program. This program is designed for qualified students to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Applied Exercise Science and a Master of Applied Exercise Physiology (MSAEP) degree in five years with guaranteed placement in the MSAEP program if the following criteria are met:

  • 成人禁区 internal and early-admission candidates:
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in prerequisite coursework.
    • Prerequisite Courses (grade of C or better):
    • BIOL108/109: Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab or BIOL122/123 Molecular and Cellular Biology with Lab
    • BIOL110/111: Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab or BIOL 120/121 Diversity of Life with Lab
    • CHEM103/104: Chemistry of Life with Lab or CHEM111/112 General Chemistry with Lab
    • PSYC211 or MATH213: Statistics
    • SPRT130: Sport Nutrition
    • SPRT240: Sport Psychology
    • SPRT250: Exercise Psychology
    • SPRT310: Research Methods
    • SPRT360/361: Kinesiology with Lab
    • SPRT390/391: Exercise Physiology with Lab
    • SPRT414: Motor Learning and Development
    • SPRT415: Motor Learning and Performance

Students may be considered for early admission according to the following guidelines. Students are required to submit the Graduate Admission Application by January 15 of their junior year; they will be notified of admissions decisions by March 15th of their junior year. Students who meet early entry admission requirements will be provisionally accepted and will need to meet full acceptance requirements upon review of the spring transcript of the junior year. Accepted students will be eligible to take 500-level courses in the senior year as undergraduate students if they possess the following pre-requisite qualifications:

  • External candidates and 成人禁区 non-early admission candidates:
    • Submit official transcripts showing an undergraduate degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human performance, sports medicine or related field.
    • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA and minimum 3.0 prerequisite GPA
    • Undergraduate work in the following courses is recommended:
      • Nutrition (1 course)
      • Exercise Physiology (1 course with lab)
      • Human Anatomy and Physiology (2 courses with Labs)
      • Psychology (2 courses)
      • Kinesiology or Biomechanics (1 course with Lab)
      • Exercise Testing & Prescription (1 course with Lab)
      • Research Methods and/or Statistics (1 course)

Students should apply by January 15 of the year of entry.  (After January 15, applications will be considered on a space available basis.)

  1. Must maintain a QPA of 3.0 or higher cumulative score by the end of their junior year to apply.
  2. Maintain the correct prerequisite grades of C or better as identified in the course catalog.

成人禁区 offers opportunities for students to participate in an accelerated 3+2 program. This program is designed for qualified students to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Applied Exercise Science and a Master of Athletic Training degree in five years rather than six. Guaranteed placement in the Master in Athletic Training program will be reserved for any freshman if the following criteria are met:

  • A high school GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher cumulative score by the end of their junior year.
  • Maintain the correct prerequisite grades as identified in the course catalog.
  • Grades are reviewed by advisors at the end of each semester. Students that are not able to maintain an overall GPA of a 3.0 by the fall of their junior year will be transferred to the 4+2 guaranteed undergraduate Athletic Training Track for admission. Must meet the technical standards of the athletic trainer.
  • Successfully pass background checks as required.
  • International Students: IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, or a TOEFL score of 79 or higher.

成人禁区 also offers the opportunity to participate in a 4+2 program. This program has been designed for qualified students to earn the Bachelor of Science in Applied Exercise Science and a Master of Athletic Training degree in six years. Students in this track are not guaranteed admission. Students are eligible to enter into the program if the following criteria are met:

  • A high school GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher in 成人禁区 undergraduate courses.
  • Must achieve the required prerequisite courses.
  • Meet the technical standards for athletic trainers.
  • Be able to successfully pass the required background checks.
  • International Students: IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, or a TOEFL score of 79 or higher 454.

Relevant Minors

The Applied Exercise Science program offers four exciting minors that are open to any student who is eligible.

Program Description: The Applied Exercise Science (AES) minor is designed to give students an understanding of the human body and how it responds to exercise and injury at all stages of life. Students will gain knowledge regarding human movement, how the body responds to exercise, and the benefits of an active lifestyle. The AES Minor is unique in that it offers students a variety of choices, allowing you to tailor the minor to your specific interests and career plans.

Requirements and Curriculum: The AES minor is open to students in any major and requires 18 credit hours and a “C” or better in all courses that apply toward the minor. ** Please note that there are prerequisites and co-requisites must be met to enroll in courses.**

Program Description: The minor consists of 21 credits of behavioral focused Applied Exercise Science courses culminating in an Independent Study at the end of all coursework. The independent study will be coordinated with the student’s academic major in an effort to merge their major program of study with the focus of the Sport Behavior minor curriculum. All prerequisites are in effect.

Program Description: The Adapted Fitness minor will provide students with the knowledge and ability to understand the impact that disabilities have on physical, motor, social, and cognitive development. Additionally, students will gain knowledge related to the barriers people living with disabilities (PLWD) face, with specific emphasis on exercise and physical activity. Students will gain the tools to properly understand and teach adapted techniques to individuals by recognizing how they learn best. Lastly, students will gain practical experience in evaluating, conducting, and prescribing exercises for PLWD that is conducive to the current ACSM guidelines for physical activity.

Program Description: The Nutrition and Human Performance major offers an 18-19 credit Nutrition Minor. The coursework covers macronutrient and micronutrient basic chemistry, the roles of nutrients in the body, food sources and recommended intakes for the sport and general population. Other topics addressed include nutritional assessment, issues and current controversies in nutrition, eating disorders in athletes, and the relationship between nutritional deficiencies and specific chronic diseases throughout the lifespan.

Requirements and Curriculum: The Nutrition minor is open to students in any major and requires 18-19 credits and a “C” or better in all courses that apply toward the minor.

Completing Minor Requirements

  • The nutrition minor is a supplement to a major degree and cannot be completed by itself. You must complete the minor before or at the same time as your major.
  • The requirements such as grades (C or higher), completion of required courses, and completion of electives must be met to be awarded the Nutrition minor.
